25 smart classrooms in tribal schools soon


Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced a slew of measures, including setting up smart classes in 25 tribal welfare schools.

“Smart classrooms will be set up in 25 tribal welfare schools in the State. This will enable computer-based teaching, help easy understanding and better retention of the subject taught,” she said in a media note. She added that Rs1.29 crore would be earmarked for smart class rooms.

To better system of recording attendance, a biometric system would be installed for Rs1.54 crore in 306 tribal welfare schools, 42 tribal hostels and 2 Ekalavya model residential schools.

Considering the inconvenience of girls of Karumathampatti Government Tribal Residential School in Salem, a hostel for them would be built for Rs3.60 crore and the intake raised from 135 to 200, Jayalalithaa declared.


Another hostel to house 200 girls would come up in the Government Tribal Welfare Higher Secondary School, Pudurnadu, Javadi Hills, Vellore, she stated, adding that the hostel would be built for Rs3.94 crore.

In order to provide better schooling, the Government Tribal Elementary School at Arasaveli, Polur in Tiruvannamalai, would be upgraded to middle school. This would involve an expense of Rs3.50 crore.

The Chief Minister further announced that 1000 adi dravidar farmers would be given power under the fast track scheme. The TN Adi Dravidar Housing Development Corporation (TAHDCO) would deposit Rs7.50 crore with the Electricity Board.
